Female Campaign Worker Charged with Hoax

An old adage says, "He who is down fears no fall." Republican John McCain is making this come alive in the 21st century. Just this afternoon police in Pittsburgh, PA ruled as hoax a McCain campaign worker's allegation that an Obama supporter had assaulted her and carved the letter "B" (for Barack) on her right cheek using a knife. This is the latest example of how far the McCain campaign would go to win this election.

This is a matter that should claim the attention of every American, black or white. My fear is that there is no limit to what the republicans can and will do between now and November 4th to secure the white house. They have employed the deadliest weapons imaginable that any political campaign could ever use. That comes as no surprise. The real surprise element is knowing that none has worked to date. McCain continues to trail. The William Ayers card could not work. Obama's implication to the financial meltdown failed. The terrorist card couldn't help either. Neither did the socialist card, or the "Joe the Plumber" fiasco, just to name a few.

This recent hoax transcends politics. Not only is it a crime against the Democratic Party, it is an attack on the black race, the very reason some are opposed to Barack Obama today. As a young black male, I take it very personally that someone would use my race as a vehicle to discredit a campaign. In her poorly fabricated story, the Caucasian McCain volunteer alleged that a BLACK male, 6'4", attacked her, fondled her, and stated, "You are going to be a supporter of Obama". It is a shame that despite living in an age of civilization some have not grown past their disgust for blacks. Why wasn't her alleged attacker white? Could this be an example of the numerous fabricated stereotypes that hover over the black community, especially its males? It is a good thing authorities hastily zeroed in on this matter by exonerating the fictitious "black guy". But I still wonder how many real black men are sitting in jails and prisons today for crimes they did not commit?

It was a waste of time for everybody--Pittsburgh Police who investigated the case, the media who covered it, the listeners who followed the story. But again, the ultimate loser is John McCain, who has run the most dismal campaign in American history, and who will receive his just recompense on November 4th.
